The English Martyrs School and Sixth Form College is an 11-18 mixed voluntary aided Catholic School which has an excellent reputation throughout the area. The school serves the entire Catholic community of Hartlepool and the catchment area encompassing the whole of Hartlepool Local authority.

The challenge:
The English Martyrs School had come to a crossroad in the development of its communications, left with a legacy telephone system that could no longer be expanded or maintained, it found its telephony was unable to support its growth and changing demands.
After providing communications solutions for the School for a number of years, The English Martyrs School looked to Odyssey to provide a reliable telephony solution to overcome a number of obstacles.

The Odyssey Solution:

A detailed site survey revealed that the school had recently invested in brand new CAT 5 Cabling and WIFI coverage through-out the school, lending itself perfectly for the installation of an IP based telephone system to integrate with and complement the existing infrastructure.
Odyssey Systems proposed the installation of the IP enabled LG IPECS telephone system. The Systems modular architecture would allow the phone system to grow in line with schools needs and requirements. The system would be fully maintained by trained Odyssey Systems engineers. The IP protocol would mean in the event of down time Odyssey could remotely dial into the telephone system drastically reducing response time. Changes to the phone systems configuration could also be made within minutes, without the need for an engineer call out.
The IPECS phone system would also have considerable voicemail capacity to cope with the school demands; it also harnesses technology to distribute voicemail to particular user email accounts, allowing extra flexibility to free up space on the voicemail system if required.
As well as having the ability to use mobile extensions from the telephone system, the invested in full school WIFI coverage would make it possible to have mobile SIP extensions from the main system offering full workforce mobility around the school.

Results:

After the full install and training on the LG IPECS system, The English Martyrs School now have fully functioning telephone systems scalable to their needs now and in the future.
Although the school are not using SIP for their telephony traffic the new phone systems means that they are Sip enabled for the flexibility of future use. Sip can also be used as a failover option in the event that there is an issue with the schools ISDN 30.
The new telephone system would also support mobile extensions and SIP mobile extensions allowing the school to utilise the existing WIFI coverage and the functionality of the IPECS system
The voicemail capacity on the IPECS telephone system can handle all of the schools requirements. In future the IPECS offers functionality to distribute voicemails to specific members of staffs email inboxes. This could coincide with the schools new email policy to make sure emails are responded to in a prompt manner ensuring voicemails are listened to and dealt within existing work flows.
