UK INTERNET SPEEDS THE MOST
DISAPPOINTING IN EUROPE
Odyssey Systems, the premium business communications specialist, has debunked a recent communications opinion poll to show that UK internet provision is consistently the most disappointing in Europe.
37% of people in the UK said, in the recent E-Communications Household Survey by the European Commission, that the internet speeds and capacities provided to them did not match the conditions of the contracts that they signed. This compares with an EU average of 23%.
Mike Odysseas, managing director of Odyssey Systems, argues that internet service providers often mislead their potential clients as it is impossible to accurately predict the service which will be provided until it is fully installed and has settled to a steady rate, up to ten days after installation. “Service providers who claim to be able to guarantee a particular speed to their customers are not being fully transparent,” he said.
The problems do not, however, stop at the advertisement of internet services. They also lie in the contracts chosen by consumers. 42% of consumers in the EU subscribe to a bundled service, which allows them to purchase internet, phone and TV services from a single provider. Only 34% of citizens think that this bundle makes their services cheaper, whilst 14% of people believe that their bundles offer them services which they do not need.
