COMMUNICATIONS EXPERT WELCOMES ISP TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT STEPS
Odyssey Systems the Premium business communications specialist, has welcomed Ofcom’s steps for Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to improve traffic management transparency.
Traffic management is used by ISPs to slow down or accelerate individual users’ bandwidth to allow more people to use their service at busy times.
Telecommunications regulator Ofcom has set out steps for ISPs to take to improve their internet traffic management transparency. Although ISPs already provide some customer information on their use of traffic management, Ofcom believes it doesn’t go far enough and it should be made clearer and easier to understand.
Mike Odysseas, managing director and founder of Odyssey Systems said: “The internet is now a vital part of people’s lives and we expect and depend on being able to extract information and services from this resource. Most ISPs shape traffic because they have insufficient capacity to deal with the bandwidth used at peak times and have to carry out this process to avoid bottlenecks due to their inadequate central infrastructure.
“At Odyssey Systems, we do not shape our internet traffic in any way. Our full resources are directed into looking after the needs of the customer. We also make sure that our capacity is in line with the usage and needs of our customers. We do not inspect or adjust our clients’ bandwidth and our clients’ data passes unhindered to ensure the best experience.”
